January 1, 2027 Is Coming. What Kind of Mentor Coach do You want to Be when it Arrives?
10 hours of self-paced mentor coach education that meets the ICF Mentor Coach Specialization requirement (and goes far beyond).

If you’re currently a mentor coach, you’re probably feeling at least one of these right now:
- Frustrated that after years of mentoring coaches, hundreds of hours, real results and happy clients, ICF is requiring you to prove that you know how to mentor coach
- Annoyed that this is going to cost you money for something you feel you’ve already earned
- Unsure where to even find 10 hours of qualified mentor coach training that actually meets the requirement for experienced mentor coaches
- Quietly worried that if someone looked closely at your mentoring they might find gaps you didn’t know were there
Even though you understand the need to have increased standards for who calls themselves a mentor coach, it still feels like a shock. You start looking for a way to make this work for you. You ask if your existing coach training programs qualify as mentor coach training, and they don’t.
The question then becomes:
How do I shift from experiencing the impact of having to participate in required mentor coach training, to seeing it as an opportunity for my next level of development toward mentor coach mastery?
Sure, you realize you can treat this as a box to check: find the mentor coach training hours, get the certificate, and move on. Or you can treat it as something you’ve actually been waiting for without knowing it — an opportunity for a real look at what’s happening inside your mentoring, and do what we ask of our mentor coaching clients everyday: to be open to learning and growth.
The thing is:
How do you gain insight into your own mentoring presence and mentoring skills without any outside input?
The truth is you can’t, because we do what we do without questioning if we could do it even better.
You begin to wonder what it would be like to immerse yourself in learning and to know your mentoring strengths with clarity, not in a vague general way. And to get really clear on your mentor coaching development opportunities, without self-judgment. You feel growing excitement.
That is what this program was built to develop: your next level of mastery as a mentor coach.
Most mentor coaches will tell you that you just know when you hear mastery.
I disagree.
Mastery isn’t a feeling: it’s a set of specific, observable, nameable behaviors. And once you know what to listen for, you’ll start hearing more in coaching sessions you never noticed before, in your clients’ work and in your own.
Mastery isn’t about just becoming a “Master Certified Coach.” A Mindset of Mastery is available to every mentor coach who is committed to getting better, and evolving to their next level of competence, step by step.
It can be challenging to develop our next level of presence and mentoring skills without input, such as hearing examples of how an experienced mentor coach works with the coach of any skill level – ACC, PCC or MCC.

This is what this program will give you: the ability to hear first-hand how an experienced mentor coach has honed their mentor coaching abilities over 13 years (so far). And who is committed to continuing to evolve herself to their next level of mastery.

Introducing Mastery from the Inside: A Mentor Coach Immersion
A self-paced 10-hour mentor coach education program designed to meet the ICF Mentor Coach Specialization requirement (and take you well beyond).
The intent is even experienced mentor coaches will finish the program with more clarity about their strengths and their development opportunities. And to have the the kind of evidence-based clarity that may inform new ways of being in future mentor coaching sessions.
Through this program you will:
- Develop your listening for the ICF Mentor Coaching Competencies by observing and doing: hear real coaching sessions debriefed at PCC and MCC skill level
- Build greater capacity to conduct evidence-based mentoring sessions that are specific and grounded in the behaviors and markers, competency-by-competency
- Practice writing Session Observation Form feedback at ACC, PCC or MCC skill level using the same standard I’ve applied across more than 2,000 coaching recordings I’ve assessed
- Develop your ability to deliver verbal feedback that leaves coaches more motivated than when they arrived to the mentoring session
- Deepen your capacity to facilitate the development of presence and skill by helping the coach hear it for themselves

Carly changed the way I coach.
Carly has an incredible ability to listen to a coaching conversation, spot patterns, and help get to the root of what’s really happening. Her feedback was specific and grounded in the MCC competencies. I left every conversation with greater clarity, something I could apply right away, and an increased ability to notice my coaching choices in real time.
During the six months I was in her MCC Mentor Coaching Program, a lot of life was happening. Carly met me where I was while continuing to challenge and support my growth. I chose to continue working with her through several additional 1:1 sessions after the program ended, and that individual support was invaluable as I continued integrating my learning and growing as a coach.
Earning my MCC was a milestone. Becoming a stronger coach was the real gift. For that, I will always be grateful.
Jeana Marinelli, MCC
What Makes this Program Different
This program gives you access most mentor coaches never get.
This program gives you something rare that you would otherwise only get by being one of my mentor coaching clients: three actual mentoring sessions with three real coaches, unfiltered and unscripted, exactly as they happened. Y
You’ll hear the coaching session recording between the coach and their client. Then you’ll hear the matching mentor coaching session with the coach: how I listened, what I caught, what I named and how I structured verbal feedback in a collaborative way which has coaches leaving their mentoring session motivated to keep going – even if they came in convinced their coaching session was one of their worst ever.
You become aware of what’s possible that you might not otherwise know existed.
My Session Observation Form are specific, and completed from deep knowledge of each credential level, with specific, observable, nameable behaviors, timestamped and grounded in the exact words spoken. As well as naming Strengths and Development Opportunities. For most coaches, reading my Form consolidates what occurred in the mentoring session, where they experience mastery as something you can hear, name and develop in yourself.
Most programs ask you to be evaluated. This one lets you evaluate me.
You don’t submit your coaching sessions or mentoring sessions to me for grading in this program. Instead, you have three opportunities to hear me mentor real coaches and you can evaluate my work against the ICF Mentor Coaching Competencies.
What did you notice about my presence? What would you have done differently? Where did you see the markers of mastery and where might you have caught something I missed?
You will finish this program feeling more confident because you’ve heard how an experienced mentor coach works and can experiment with what feels right for you in your personal style.
Learn from mentoring demonstrated at PCC and MCC skill level.
This program offers one PCC Markers and two MCC Behaviors (BARS) mentoring sessions. Even if you only mentor at ACC skill level, you will hear the principles of mentor coaching demonstrated by an experienced mentor coach and be able to apply to your mentoring for ACC, PCC or MCC skill level.

2 hours
You can have 10,000 hours of coaching and still not hear what’s actually happening in your sessions. Module One gives you an opportunity to evaluate your own coaching and learn from the process.
- With permission, record a coaching session with one of your coaching clients of between 30-60 minutes. Then obtain an accurate (verbatim) transcript of the session to support you accurately review your coaching as you watch or listen to your coaching session recording.
- Then evaluate your coaching using the ACC BARS, PCC Markers or MCC BARS* at the credential level you are mentoring at. If you mentor at more than one level, choose the one you most want to focus on for your own learning.
- *You will be supplied with a template form of each.
- Evaluate your coaching using the same criteria that I (and the ICF) use to assess your own work.

Module Two: PCC Mastery in Action: Client One Deep Dive
2 hours
Listen to a real coaching session between coach and client. Then sit in on my mentoring session with the coach – unfiltered, unscripted, and exactly as it happened in practice. Hear how I listened, what I caught, what I named, and how I structured the verbal feedback in a collaborative way that has coaches leaving our mentoring session motivated to keep going from – even if they came in convinced their coaching session was one of their worst.
- Hear how I listen, how I structure feedback at a PCC skill level, and move a coach from uncertainty to clarity
- See exactly how I documented what I just heard in the coaching session, word for word, in my detailed completed Session Observation Form

Modules Three and Four: MCC Mastery in Action — Two Clients, Two Deep Dives
2 hours each (4 hours)
Competent mentor coaching gives feedback. Masterful mentor coaching changes how a coach sees themselves. Hear the difference across two different coaches, so the standard becomes something you can hear in your own work.
These two sessions are mentoring at MCC skill level and are a different coach and client for each session.
- Listen to two real coaching sessions between coach and client, followed by my actual mentoring session with each coach – unfiltered, unscripted, and exactly as it happened
- Hear how I draw out the precise distinctions that separate competent mentor coaching from masterful mentor coaching and discover how presence makes the MCC level feel like a completely different conversation
- See exactly how I documented what I heard in each coaching session, word for word, in my detailed completed Session Observation Form
- Submit your Self Reflection Form, unlock my Session Observation Forms, and finish each module clearer on what mastery sounds like in practice

Module Five: Apply What You’ve Learned
2 hours
This is where you upgrade your mentor coaching skills from understanding what makes someone a strong mentor coach, to embodying it and experimenting with what you learned.
- Obtain permission from one of your mentor coaching clients to record a mentoring session with them of one hour
- Prepare your feedback using everything absorbed across the previous four modules including preparing your Session Observation Form prior to your mentoring session
- Conduct your mentoring session bringing the same evidence-based, competency-by-competency standard you have seen and heard applied throughout this program
Submit your Self Reflection Form and Session Observation Form. Once all of your documents have been verified as satisfactorily completed, you will receive your Certificate of Completion.
Finish the program with a standard of mentor coaching that will keep raising the bar on everything you do from here.
